A heartbroken mother and her two young children died after contracting the deadly disease in the remote region of Liberia, a source close to the family said on Sunday.
The source told The Irish Time that the mother and two children were killed by the disease after falling ill at home with symptoms of the coronavirus.
The woman, identified as Maria, had been staying at her home in the town of Tanae, a rural area about 10 kilometres (6.8 miles) from Monrovia, where Liberia is located.
The two young boys, aged seven and nine, were in her care when she fell ill, the source said.
“She had not been eating well and had fallen ill with diarrhoea.
She was rushed to hospital, where she died from the disease,” the source told the paper.
It was not clear when the two children became ill.
In December, a woman in Liberia’s capital, Monroto, died from Ebola, although it was unclear if she contracted the disease herself.
The health ministry did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
